Digital Learning Environments

Now that the world is becoming more interconnected through the use of technology, having the right tools to collaborate is critical. Take a look through some of these free resources that will help you collaborate with not only your students - but also with a larger audience if you choose to create an exchange with another school or program.

Flipgrid

A free and easy tool for your students to use to record short video responses to questions and conversations.  It’s also a great assessment tool to remove the pressure of performing publicly. Videos can be switched between public and private modes making the audience as large or as small as you want them to be.

Zoom

An easy to use video conferencing software that allows its participants to share presentations, videos, and files in a live feed. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, many schools have used Zoom as a learning platform. Students can be placed into smaller “breakout,” rooms or stay in the larger whole classroom for lessons and activities.

Padlet

An electronic bulletin board, Padlet allows its users to paste notes and videos while also allowing for “likes,” via hearts and responses. This is a wildly engaging tool to use in your classroom and often helps some of your quieter students shine. Padlet is also a great tool to use at professional development events with adults.

Google Maps

Can’t bring your students to a location to teach them about the local environment? Drop them there with Google Maps! There are so many features that allow students to be able to familiarize themselves with an area and gain a “local” perspective on a place using Google Maps. Street View allows students to walk along streets, see bodies of water, and learn more about the community that you are exploring.

What is Global Education?

Global Competence is the skills, values, and behaviors that we want to teach our students in order to compete and thrive in their more diverse and interconnected world.

Global Education is the inclusion of Global Competence in our classroom by creating meaningful connections between the world and the content we teach. It is not a replacement for what we teach, but rather it is an additional perspective that we bring into our classroom.

When you open your doors to the world outside, the possibilities for what your students can discover are endless.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
